Leadership Restraint
The lust for power, sex, and money has caused many leaders to fall and has also led to the destruction of many citizens.
Therefore, controlling these impulses is crucial. Leaders, in particular, require extra vigilance since they often have greater access to these vices.
This is why the Torah prohibits a king from acquiring many horses, having many wives, or amassing excessive wealth.
"Only he should not have too many horses . . . too many wives . . . and he must not greatly increase silver and gold for himself." Deuteronomy 17:16-17
