Kindness of Son to Father
Abraham sends Eliezer to find a spouse for Isaac. Isaac goes to a particular place in the south of Israel called Beer-lahai-roi. What is the significance of the Torah needing to spell out the name of this particular place?
We are taught that Hagar, Sarah's maidservant was living in Beer-lahai-roi. (This is also the place where Hagar had taken refuge when fleeing from Sarah back in 16:14). And why had Isaac traveled to where Hagar lived?
He journeyed there with plans to reunite Hagar with his now-widowed father. Isaac first took care of the needs of his widowed father before going and davening for his own needs in taking a wife.
"Now Isaac came from having gone to Beer-lahai-roi . . . Isaac went out to pray (see Rashi) in the field toward evening . . . " Genesis 24:62-63
